Chemical Peels

We offer a variety of peels from very superficial to moderate/deep. We carry Enzyme, Lactic Acid, Jessner, Salicylic Acid, TCA, Alph-abeta, Revitalize, and Rejuvenize Peels (from Allergan). During your initial consultation, you and your aesthetician (or Medical Provider for deeper peels) will decide which one is right for you, and how many treatment sessions are needed to reach the desired outcome.

Most chemical peels take approximately 30-40 minutes. During that time, we will apply a specially formulated chemical solution to your skin. This will be left on for only a few minutes, and will accelerate the shedding of your dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new ones.

Most people experience a warm or tingling sensation during the application and up to 10 minutes afterwards. The amount of peeling your skin undergoes depends on a variety of things such as the depth of peel chosen (superficial to deep), the use of retinols prior to treatment, additional retinols used during treatment, etc.  We can even combine a chemical peel with a microdermabrasion treatment for enhanced exfoliation and deeper peel penetration! SAGE will customize your peel treatment according to your skin goals, and the amount of down time needed for the depth of peel chosen, amount of down time available, etc. For optimal results, our skin-care specialist will advise you about best practices and products to use after your peel.

FAQs

With a light or “lunch-time” peel, mild redness and peeling is common and can last up to four days. Most light chemical peels require no downtime, and you may resume normal activities immediately afterwards. Mineral makeup may also be applied immediately following the procedure.

With a medium or deep chemical peel, however, makeup is not recommended until healing is complete. Reactions to moderate chemical peels are similar to a sunburn; generally the deeper the peel, the longer the recovery. Peeling and redness are very common. Use a nonabrasive cleanser and do not scrub the skin. It is important to not pick off the shedding skin, as this may cause infection and/or scarring.

When you heal, your skin will feel tighter, smoother, and perhaps more dry than it felt prior to the peel. Following any skin peel, it is important that you avoid exposure to the sun, as your new skin will be very sensitive. Always apply broad spectrum (UVA and UVB blocking) sun protection with a SPF of 20 or higher, about 15 or 20 minutes before you go outside. Your provider will advise you of proper care instructions and create an at-home regimen to ensure the most optimal results.
Like everything else in life, human skin needs maintenance. The peel’s wonderful results will last as long as skin care is maintained, and sun exposure is moderate. In between peels, skin outcome is optimized with a good skin care routine.
The peel is excellent for both adult and adolescent acne. Results are quick and very impressive. Combined with a daily skin regimen, almost all acne cases can be readily and safely managed.
